By this book, Schwab takes up on a genre of the 17th and 18th centuries: depictions of the human character, genre pictures and portraits of nobility and bourgeoisie. While other authors of such human typologies would be skeptical and derisive at best, Schwab, in his Menschensammlung aims for complete destruction.

The persons from A to Z are not so much character studies but victims of a final deconstruction: they are murdered, slaughtered, sawed and cut up, suffocated in manure and waste, and drowned in blood, sweat and tears. And language, as the most essential instrument of the »man refined«, constitutes the perpetrator, victim and tool of this massacre.

With an epilogue by Elisabeth Strowick

Presse

»A grand document of literary disillusion, inebriated by language.« (Neue Zürcher Zeitung)
